Interview feature: "SWA Welcomes Writers Back"

SWA meeting
SWA meeting

Jackalope Magazine writer Marisa Doherty came and talked to my university's Student Writers Association!

SWA exists to cultivate a community of writers at my school. I've been an attendee since my very first semester at SFUAD, and this is my first semester as an officer.

Having this type of organization available to students is so important. Being a writer in the world has the potential to be a lonely endeavor, and being too alone with your writer-ness can be detrimental to your craft. Feeling accepted in your path, expanding your perspectives, being encouraged to grow your comfort zone - all of these are crucial to not only becoming a better writer, but to breaking the stereotype of the over-introverted, always holed up in your room, nose glued in a book/computer writer. From experience, having a community and opportunity of SWA has not only grown my confidence, but my sense of security going into the professional writer universe.
